Problem authorizing gSyncit to access your account

When authorizing gSyncit to access your Google/Toodledo/Wunderlist account you may encounter one of the following errors as shown below. The issues indicate a problem when completing the open authentication workflow used to grant gSyncit to your online account to sync.

OVERVIEW:

When authorizing gSyncit to access your online accounts a web browser will appear using your default web browser settings. The browser will will request you log into the specific account you want to sync with and grant gSyncit access to that account. During the authorization process the web browser will redirect a response to gSyncit listening on a localhost port for a response. If the response is blocked to from being redirected to localhost then the authorization will fail.

RESOLUTION:

  • Check that you have a default web browser selected on the Windows settings for "Default Programs"

  • Check your host file to make sure it is correctly mapping to local host. This file is located in the file C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/host and can be edited with the Windows Notepad application. You may need the uncomment the following references to localhost.

    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
    127.0.0.1       localhost
    ::1             localhost
